Page pins troubleshooting
Problems with the panel, the markers, the composer and the Alt+click gesture. Connection, popup and shortcut problems are on Extension troubleshooting.
The panel does not appear on a site
Click the icon and nothing happens on the page, or the popup opens instead.
| What you see | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The popup, saying “Page pins can’t run on this page” | Chrome forbids extensions on this page. | Open an ordinary website. |
| The popup with Connect to Toado | Signed out. | Connect. |
| The popup with the classic controls | In-page logging is off. | Turn it on in the options page. |
| A card headed Add this site to keep pins here | No project claims this site. | Press New project for this site or add the site to an existing one. See Site claiming and projects. |
| Nothing at all | You dismissed page pins on this site earlier with the X. | Press Alt + C or Page pins in the popup; either brings the panel back. |
The claim card refuses
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ”That project already has 20 URL patterns, which is the most it can hold.” | Remove a pattern in the project’s URL patterns tab, then try again. |
| ”Page pins only work on ordinary web pages.” | The page is not http or https. |
| ”Choose a project first.” | Pick a project in the picker before Add this site here. |
| The card closes with no change | The project already claims this page through a narrower pattern. Nothing needed writing. |
A project is missing from File in
The extension caches your projects. Close and reopen the panel to refresh. With no connection the picker reads “No projects available offline. Open Toado to load them.” If the project was just created in the web app, give it a moment and reopen the panel.
Pin mode timed out
“Pin mode timed out. Press Capture or the shortcut to aim again.” Aiming lasts three minutes; the hint counts down the last seconds. Arm again.
The click went through to the page
It should not. While aiming, the press is swallowed end to end so links do not navigate and buttons do not fire. If a page’s own handler ran anyway, that is a bug; report it with the page URL.
The click did nothing on a heavy page
The panel refuses privileged actions when it cannot verify it is visible and unobstructed, which includes a page whose scripts keep the main thread busy for long stretches. The symptom is a swallowed click. Press again once the page settles. This is deliberate hardening against pages that cloak the panel; a real person meets it only on a page that was already frozen.
The pin reads “placed by position”
Toado could not identify the element under the pin, so the marker is held at the spot it was placed and will not follow the element if the page changes. It happens on anonymous wrappers with no id, test id, label or stable text, when nothing within a few levels above qualifies either. Aim at the button, row or card rather than the whitespace around it. The screenshot and ticket are complete either way.
A pin is under “Needs a new location”
The element the pin was anchored to can no longer be found on this page, usually after a redesign or because the content was removed. The ticket and screenshot are intact; only the marker is missing. Locate says “That pin’s spot on the page could not be found. It may have moved or been removed.” Open the ticket and, if the bug still exists, pin it again at the new spot.
Markers are not showing
They are hidden by default on every site so a shared screen does not reveal a list of bugs. Press Show markers on the panel or on the pill. The choice is remembered per site. Locate finds a marker whether or not markers are showing.
The composer says “Pin mode is no longer available.” or “Pin unavailable”
Between the click and the save, something changed: In-page logging was turned off, the extension was disconnected, the server’s pin capability was withdrawn, or the draft expired. Drafts last fifteen minutes. Close the composer and arm again.
”Your capture limit has been reached.”
The workspace has used its monthly ticket allowance. The pin is not queued. Upgrade the plan or wait for the reset; the panel shows the server’s notice under the pickers while this applies.
”The pin could not be saved. Please try again.”
The upload failed. Press Try again. If the browser is offline, the panel says “Offline. Pins will be filed when the connection is back.” and the pin queues on save. If you signed out and back in while it was queued, the pin is dropped rather than uploaded; see Classic capture, Offline.
The title stays “Toado is writing a title…”
Title generation runs on the backend after the ticket exists and usually finishes within seconds. If it stays pending, open the ticket and write the title yourself; the placeholder is not a lock.
Alt+click does not place a pin during a recording
- The recording is not running on this tab. The Alt outline only appears while a walkthrough is active and this is the tab being recorded.
- “Check the recorder before adding a pin. It did not answer.” The recording window is not responding. Bring it to the front; if it has closed, the recording has ended.
- In-page logging is off. Alt+click during a recording still needs it on.
Stop does not end the recording
Stop is two clicks. The first turns the button into Are you sure? and announces “Press Stop again to end the recording.”; the second ends it. The confirmation reverts on its own if you wait.
The panel looks wrong on a particular site
The panel is drawn in a closed shadow root with its own styles, so a site’s stylesheet cannot restyle it. If it looks faded, blurred or shifted, the page is applying a filter or transform to the whole document. The panel repairs its own shell when a page tampers with it and, if the page keeps fighting, takes itself off the page rather than sit there refusing. Reload the tab and open the panel again.
Where to ask
Get in touch with the page URL (or its shape, if private), the extension version from the options page footer, and what the panel or composer said. A pin on the Toado web app itself is the fastest report.
Where to next
